It’s Senior Prom time, not only for high schools but at the Oak Park Arms Retirement community. Seniors will be dancing the night away at the 39th annual Seniors’ Senior Prom titled “Fiesta” from 6 – 9 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2017, at the Oak Park Arms Retirement Community, 408 S. Oak Park Ave.
The public is warmly welcome to attend and enjoy the dancing.
“This year the room will be decorated with a Mexican fiesta theme,” said Heather Lindstrom, director of marketing for the Oak Park Arms. “Our prom is quite an event, and everyone always has a wonderful time.”
Live music is provided by Salsa Chicago.
“We’re looking forward to coming out to the Oak Park Arms,” said Miguel Angelo of Salsa Chicago. “We’ll be playing some salsa, some cha-cha and some nice ballads, too. We’re excited.”
In addition, there will be entertainment by the Folkloric Dancers who are employees of the housekeeping staff at the Oak Park Arms’ sister community – the Timbers of Shorewood. The dancers founded the group, so the residents could learn more about the Hispanic culture. The members of the dance troupe are self-taught, and they rehearse before and after work.
A highlight of the prom is the crowning of the 2017 king and queen who are elected by the residents. A special dance will take place featuring all the kings and queens, past and present.
An additional highlight is the announcement of the 2017 winner of the Oak Park Arms scholarship.
Oak Park Arms Senior Living is a rental retirement community which provides senior housing in the form of independent living. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
The prom is free and open to the public, but reservations are requested. For more information call 708-386-4040.
