The Monday Night Concert Series continues with a vocal performance by Howard McClain at 7 p.m. Monday, September 19, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave.
McClain will be accompanied by pianist Jeremy Kahn and clarinet/saxophone player Eric Schneider who will also perform selected duets together. In addition, Monday Night Concert host and singer Desi Vasquez will join McClain in singing the popular standards.
McClain was raised singing in the church with the McClain Family Singers. He performed with the Thompson Community Singers, sang rhythm & blues with the Golden Tones, The Dream Makers and he is one of the original Kool Gents that emerged from Chicago in the 1950s.
A Chicago native and self-taught singer, McClain has spent more than 50 years conducting choirs, and 69 years singing. His musical career has taken him across the world to places such as Italy, Jamaica and Canada. He is now an Oak Park Arms resident.
Although he has spent most of his life singing and conducting, while at the Arms McClain discovered another outlet for his talents – painting. His works have been displayed in Gallery PINK in the Oak Park Arts District, as well as in the Arms’ Narrow Gallery.
Oak Park Arms Senior Living is a rental retirement community which provides senior housing in the form of independent living. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
