The Oak Park Arms Music Club presents “Spinning the Oldies,” at 6 p.m. Friday, July 27, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. The Music Club is hosted by radio announcer Dan Kane. The July theme is “The Dog Days of Summer.”
Kane knows there are many fans of the music that was popular in the middle years of the 20th century, roughly 1935 to 1975. So, once a month, he brings some of his massive collection of CD’s to the Oak Park Arms, where a growing crowd of people from the community gather to reminisce, tap their feet, and enjoy the sounds of the last millennium.
The program spans multiple musical genres: classical, pop, jazz and Big Band, and folk musical selections.
“A certain song can evoke a memory for a participant, and sometimes that person will share the story of the memory,” said Desi Vasquez, social director at the Oak Park Arms. “We’ve had some wonderful discussions.”
Oak Park Arms Senior Living is a rental retirement community which provides senior housing in the form of independent living. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
