The Monday Night Concert Series presents a free concert titled “Songs about YOU, Part 2” performed by Jeremy Kahn and Larry Kohut at 7 p.m. Monday, September 23, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. “Songs About YOU” is culled from the many songs that have “You” in the title.
“The Monday Night Concert Series is dedicated to presenting small ensembles, primarily solos, duos and trios,” said Desi Vasquez, social director at the Oak Park Arms. “The concerts are popular, free and open to the public.”
Jeremy Kahn is one of Chicago’s busiest pianists, dividing his time between jazz venues, pit orchestras, and recording studios. He has a diverse music background and is a highly skilled pianist. He graduated from New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Jaki Byard.
Kahn has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin, Branford Marsalis and many others, and was the pianist in the Chicago Jazz Ensemble. He has played for many of Chicago’s Broadway productions, including Wicked, Spamalot, The Lion King, Les Misérables and Aida.
Larry Kohut is one of Chicago’s busiest and talented bass players, playing in many different styles. After touring with Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” for several years, he now tours with vocalist/pianist/composer Patricia Barber. Kohut teaches at the University of Illinois at Chicago and plays in many clubs and orchestra pits.
The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides senior independent living and assisted living apartments. Additional services include respite care and an adult day care program. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
