The Monday Night Concert Series continues with the Ray Coyle Ensemble at 7 p.m. Monday, May 5, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. The concert will consist of original compositions by Ray Coyle featuring the “Gaia Suite” in celebration of Earth Day.
Coyle is a vibraphonist and composer who performs and teaches in the Chicago area. He has appeared at the Green Mill and Jerry’s Music Room, and done live broadcasts and concerts at Chicago area radio stations and schools.
Raised in England, Coyle has wide musical experience having worked in Europe and the United States both as a drummer and mallet player. He started playing the drums at an early age and began his career working in clubs backing singers. Coyle later gained degrees in jazz and classical percussion from Newcastle College of Arts and Technology and Trinity College London. He immigrated to the Netherlands where he earned a masters degree specializing in mallets and composition. In addition, he has experience teaching music at a collegiate level.
His group ranges from a trio to a sextet, currently featuring trumpet, sax and French horn.
