Cupid’s Valentine Dance Brings Seniors and Youth Together
The Freenotes Big Band provided music at a Valentine’s dance on Saturday, February 8, 2020, in the grand ballroom at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave, Oak Park, IL.
More than 130 seniors and members of the Oak Park community attended the free ballroom dance on Saturday afternoon.
“Our Valentine’s dance is always a favorite in the community,” said Heather Lindstrom, director of marketing at the Oak Park Arms. “Seniors and kids were together having a great time taping their shoes and dancing on the ballroom floor.”
The Freenotes is a 22-piece orchestra that plays music from 1940s through the 1960s. The name “Freenotes” originated 30 years ago when the band’s founder, the late Art Mertz, gathered a few musical friends to perform at an outdoor fundraiser. The group didn’t charge – hence the “Free”notes.
The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides senior housing in the form of senior independent living and assisted living apartments. Additional services include respite care and an award-winning adult day care program. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
