A wine and cheese reception will take place for the opening of a new art installation, “Like it or Not,” by abstract expressionist painter and Oak Park Arms resident, Frank Schaben. The event takes place from 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, in the Narrow Gallery at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave.
The reception is free and open to the public. The exhibit can be viewed daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. through Saturday, April 18, 2015.
Schaben’s materials include acrylic paint, enamel, polyester resin and catalyst on masonite, glass or canvas. Rarely using a paint brush, he prefers to scrape paint on or off his canvases with paddles, tongue depressors, rulers and/or pieces of wood. Blotches of paint are layered, dabbed and scraped again to display subsequent colors of paint.
“Frank’s work is large scaled and colorful,” said Desi Vasquez, social director at the Oak Park Arms. “We hope everyone will stop by to see it.”
Oak Park Arms Senior Living is a rental retirement community which provides senior housing in the form of independent living. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
Again, the reception and the exhibit is free and open to the public. For more information call 708-386-4040.
