The Monday Night Concert at the Oak Park Arms features “A Musical Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” by pianist, Jeremy Kahn & saxophonist, Eric Schneider at 7 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2019, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Avenue. The music featured will include the work of composers: Thelonius Monk, Stevie Wonder, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, W.C. Handy, and Billy Strayhorn.
Born and raised in the Chicago area, Schneider plays saxophone and clarinet. After graduating from the University of Illinois and four years of touring with Earl Fatha’ Hines and two years with Count Basie and his Orchestra, Schneider returned to Chicago and embarked on a diverse career that blends studio work, concert performances and jazz festivals.
A resident of Oak Park, Jeremy Kahn has performed with artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Joni Mitchell, Phil Woods, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Aretha Franklin. Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribune wrote that Kahn is “a rare and gifted pianist.” He has played in jazz venues around the world and in pit orchestras for theatrical events such as “Wicked.”
The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides senior housing in the form of independent living and assisted living apartments. Additional services include respite care and an adult day care program. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
