The Monday Night Concert Series features critically acclaimed singer Spider Saloff and pianist Jeremy Kahn with a tribute to Jerome Kern at 7 p.m. Monday, December 9, at the Oak Park Arms retirement community, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. The Monday night concerts are free and open to the public.
Jerome Kern was one of the major U.S. composers of musical comedy. He wrote more than 700 songs for dozens of Broadway musicals and Hollywood films.
Since the great success of her nationally syndicated radio series “Word & Music,” Saloff is known as one of the great interpreters of the American Songbook. She has been endorsed by both the estates and families of George and Ira Gershwin and Irving Berlin.
An Oak Park resident, Kahn earned a bachelor’s degree in Music from Boston’s New England Conservatory. He lived in New York City for 12 years, and now he and his family live in Oak Park. He’s played with Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Joni Mitchell, Phil Woods, Charlie Haden, Aretha Franklin, Barbara Cook and Alvin and the Chipmunks.
