The residents and staff at the Oak Park Arms are excited to participate in this year’s “Celebrating Seniors Week” from May 18 – 25, at the Oak Park Arms retirement community, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. The 2017 theme is “Aging Out Loud.”
The week is a series of community-wide events throughout Oak Park, River Forest and Forest Park with the purpose of raising awareness for aging and older adults. In past years, there have been 40 to 50 events throughout the three communities.
The concept was initiated from the Celebrating Seniors Coalition, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the senior community.
Celebrating Seniors Week activities at the Oak Park Arms include:
- An art exhibit titled, “We Are Timeless,” features the creative work of older adults, all students of Nancy Fong of the Life Long Learning Center. Exhibit hours 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday of Celebrating Seniors Week.
- Hearing screenings with Dr. Robert Beiter, a licensed audiologist, will be available from 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, May 17
- The Upside of Downsizing, a seminar presented by Roz Byrne of RE/MAX, takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20. Byrne is dedicated to seniors faced with moving in the current real estate market.
- The Encore Chorus will perform at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 23.
“A wide range of organizations join forces to coordinate and host the events at locales such as the Oak Park Arms,” said Heather Lindstrom, director of marketing at the Oak Park Arms, “and we are proud to participate.”
