Roberta L. Raymond will lecture about her most recent book, “Three Sea Tales,” at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. The book is for children of all ages. It contains three stories that reveal another world – the world under the sea where even fish work together.
Based on Raymond’s observations while snorkeling, the stories inform as well as entertain. Short “author’s notes” at the end of each story bring a personal note to the fictionalized, yet factual, tale the reader just completed.
The stories are fun and intriguing: “Gus the Flying Gurnard,” “Frenchy’s Cleaning Station,” and “Sylvie – The Squid Who Couldn’t Change Colors.”
Raymond, aka Bobbie Larson, is primarily know as an artist and her beautiful, transparent watercolors bring her stories to life. Gus, Frenchy and Sylvie are depicted as they appeared to Raymond during her underwater observations. Through her words and drawings, Raymond shows how courage, curiosity, and hard work can transform the lives of undersea creatures.
