In celebration of Earth Day, a rejuvenation workshop will be led by Isaac Johnson and Desi Vasquez from 9:30 a.m. — 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave.
This workshop will review breathing techniques, meditation, gentle stretching, yoga and Tai Chi. The workshop will be team-taught in two sessions:
• morning session from 9:30 – 11a.m.
• afternoon session from 12:30 – 2 p.m.
Light refreshments will be served during the break and participants are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch with them. No other materials are necessary, but loose and comfortable clothing is suggested.
Vasquez is the social director at the Arms. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Theatre from Milton College in Milton, WI and is a member of the Oak Park Art League. In addition, she has trained at the Art Institute of Chicago and is a member of the Student’s League in New York City and the Screen Actors Guild.
Johnson teaches free Tai Chi classes weekly at the Arms.
The celebration of Earth Day first began in April 1970 when Senator Gaylord Nelson asked Americans to join in a grassroots demonstration to show support for environmental issues. Earlier that year, San Francisco activist John McConnell asked Americans the same thing on the spring equinox (March 21). Millions of people participated in these events, so today both dates are recognized, with March 21 known as International Earth Day.
Oak Park Arms Senior Living is a rental retirement community which provides senior housing in the form of independent living. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
The workshop is free and open to the public but seating is limited to 30 participants. For more information or to reserve a seat, call 708-386-4040.
